Eastbourne, England • Nov 27th, 2017

White cliffs fall away toward a solitary lighthouse beneath a brooding sky.

the Photograph

At Beachy Head near Eastbourne on England’s south coast, the chalk cliffs drop sharply toward the sea, their pale faces towering above the lighthouse below. The shoreline curves away into distance as the water moves quietly along the base of the cliffs, the scene held in a moment of measured stillness.

The photograph is rendered in black and white to emphasise structure and tonal contrast. The sheer brightness of the chalk stands against darker grass and sea, while the lighthouse appears small and resolute within the wider landscape. Long exposure smooths the movement of the water, allowing form and scale to take precedence over motion or drama.

In print, the fine gradation within the chalk face remains clearly articulated, preserving subtle texture rather than collapsing into flat white. The transition from cliff to shingle to sea holds its separation, reinforcing the sense of depth and the quiet tension between permanence and passage that defines this stretch of coast.

the Print

Printing is treated not as a final step, but as a continuation of the work, refining tone, balance, and texture until the print feels true to the original experience. Each photograph is produced as a signed Fine Art Giclée print, carefully inspected by me before it leaves my studio.

Prints are offered in five sizes, Companion, Artist, Studio, Gallery, and Master. The range is intentionally limited, allowing the image to be experienced at a scale that feels right, from an intimate print to a larger piece with stronger presence.

Smaller editions are printed by me personally, while larger works are produced in close collaboration with a trusted fine art printer in Ireland. All prints are made using archival papers from Hahnemühle and Canson, combined with genuine Epson pigment inks, chosen for their tonal subtlety and long-term permanence. Every print is backed by my satisfaction, replacement, and lifetime fade-free guarantees. Find out more about my printing process here.
