At sunrise in the Val d’Orcia, Cappella della Madonna di Vitaleta sits quietly on a low ridge as warm light begins to move across the surrounding fields. The landscape opens wide in this view, with gentle slopes and distant hills layered softly beneath a calm, cloud-streaked sky.
Colour and space shape the photograph. Subtle greens and earth tones in the fields contrast with the warm glow gathering near the horizon, while the chapel remains small and unassuming within the wider panorama. The composition emphasises breadth and stillness rather than intimacy, allowing the land itself to carry the sense of calm.
In print, the gradual transitions between light and shadow across the fields remain continuous, giving the landscape a smooth, unbroken flow. The distant hills hold their separation without flattening, preserving depth and scale, while the chapel’s pale form stays clearly defined within the larger sweep of land and sky beyond the screen.
