A quiet approach to the tower at Vartry Reservoir as storm clouds gather.

At Vartry Reservoir in County Wicklow, an iron bridge leads directly toward the reservoir tower, its structure centred and symmetrical against the water. The scene is calm but charged, with the surface of the reservoir smoothed by long exposure as darker clouds begin to close in overhead.
Rendered in black and white, the photograph emphasises line, form, and contrast. The repeating geometry of the bridge rails draws the eye forward, while the tower stands as a solid, almost sentry-like presence at the end of the walkway. The movement in the sky contrasts with the stillness of the water and the rigid structure beneathfoot.
In print, the texture of the weathered timber and metal becomes more apparent, while subtle tonal shifts in the sky separate layers of cloud from light. The softened water holds the composition steady, allowing the eye to move slowly along the bridge and settle on the tower without distraction.
