The Stillness after the Storm

Price range: € 35.00 through € 350.00

Dublin, Ireland • Jul 25th, 2013

After a passing storm, a moss-covered rock rests in still water at Blackrock, Dublin Bay, beneath softly drifting clouds.

the Photograph

Following a summer thunderstorm, Dublin Bay settles into an unusual calm at Blackrock. Low cloud drifts slowly across the sky, perfectly mirrored in the glass-like water, while the Poolbeg chimneys sit quietly on the horizon, their presence softened by distance and reflection.

Colour is restrained and gently layered, with pale blues and greys dominating the scene. The vivid green of the moss-covered rock anchors the foreground, offering a subtle point of focus against the broader expanse of sky and sea. The symmetry between reflection and horizon creates a sense of suspension, as if the scene is holding its breath after the storm has passed.

In print, the photograph reveals a delicate separation between cloud, reflection, and water surface that is easily missed on screen. The tonal softness across the bay becomes more immersive, while the moss texture gains a quiet physicality, giving the image a grounded presence that contrasts with the otherwise ethereal atmosphere.

the Print

Printing is treated not as a final step, but as a continuation of the work, refining tone, balance, and texture until the print feels true to the original experience. Each photograph is produced as a signed Fine Art Giclée print, carefully inspected by me before it leaves my studio.

Prints are offered in five sizes, Companion, Artist, Studio, Gallery, and Master. The range is intentionally limited, allowing the image to be experienced at a scale that feels right, from an intimate print to a larger piece with stronger presence.

Smaller editions are printed by me personally, while larger works are produced in close collaboration with a trusted fine art printer in Ireland. All prints are made using archival papers from Hahnemühle and Canson, combined with genuine Epson pigment inks, chosen for their tonal subtlety and long-term permanence. Every print is backed by my satisfaction, replacement, and lifetime fade-free guarantees. Find out more about my printing process here.
