At the Giant’s Causeway on the north coast of County Antrim, hexagonal basalt columns step down into the Atlantic as storm clouds sweep overhead. Captured in long-exposure black and white, the sea is rendered as a pale, shifting veil that softens the boundary between land and water.
The composition is anchored by the foreground columns, their rounded edges and fissures sharply defined against the smooth, luminous surface of the ocean. Above them, the sky stretches outward, its motion drawn into streaks that echo the rhythm of the waves below. The horizon remains restrained and distant, allowing the geometry of the rocks to dominate the frame.
In print, the tactile quality of the basalt becomes especially pronounced, with fine surface textures holding contrast against the almost mist-like sea. The extended exposure creates a quiet tension between solidity and movement, inviting slow viewing and a gradual reading of form, tone, and flow.
