Last light slips beneath heavy cloud, warming the Atlantic at Murder Hole Beach.

the Photograph
As evening draws to a close on the Rosguill Peninsula in Donegal, the sun breaks briefly beneath a dense layer of cloud, casting a band of warm light across the Atlantic at Murder Hole Beach. The shoreline remains exposed and elemental, with waves gathering and releasing in steady motion as the day’s final light fades.
Colour and movement shape the scene. Deep blues and greys dominate the water and sky, while a narrow seam of gold spreads low across the horizon, reflected softly through the moving surface of the sea. The long exposure smooths the waves into flowing forms, allowing light rather than detail to define the moment.
In print, the contrast between the luminous band of sunlight and the darker cloud mass above remains finely balanced. Subtle gradations in colour across the water hold without breaking apart, and the softened motion of the waves retains its layered structure. The image sustains a sense of quiet drama and release, inviting slow, attentive viewing beyond the screen.

the Print
Printing is treated not as a final step, but as a continuation of the work, refining tone, balance, and texture until the print feels true to the original experience. Each photograph is produced as a signed Fine Art Giclée print, carefully inspected by me before it leaves my studio.
Prints are offered in five sizes, Companion, Artist, Studio, Gallery, and Master. The range is intentionally limited, allowing the image to be experienced at a scale that feels right, from an intimate print to a larger piece with stronger presence.
Smaller editions are printed by me personally, while larger works are produced in close collaboration with a trusted fine art printer in Ireland. All prints are made using archival papers from Hahnemühle and Canson, combined with genuine Epson pigment inks, chosen for their tonal subtlety and long-term permanence. Every print is backed by my satisfaction, replacement, and lifetime fade-free guarantees. Find out more about my printing process here.
