At Hook Head on the Wexford coast, the Atlantic moves steadily across exposed rock, washing over the low shelves that extend into the sea. The horizon holds firm while the water surges and recedes, creating a scene shaped as much by time as by tide.
Rendered in black and white, the image draws attention to texture, structure, and rhythm. The striated rock forms anchor the composition, while long exposure transforms the breaking waves into a continuous veil of movement. The sky, stretched and softened by time, echoes the motion below, reinforcing a sense of slow, elemental passage rather than momentary drama.
In print, the contrast between the dark, weathered rock and the pale, flowing water becomes more tactile. Fine gradations in tone reveal the layered geology of the shoreline, while the softened sea takes on a luminous, almost mist-like presence. The image invites sustained viewing, where solidity and motion exist in quiet balance.
