At sunset in Lyme Regis on England’s Jurassic Coast, gentle light settles across the stone arc of The Cobb, enclosing the harbour in quiet stillness. The sea lies calm within the shelter of the wall, while the sky above drifts through soft colour as day draws to a close.
Colour and form guide the image. Muted blues and warm pastel tones spread horizontally across the sky, echoed by the smooth surface of the water below. The strong curve of the harbour wall leads the eye outward toward the open channel, balancing solidity and openness without tension or drama.
In print, the fine texture of the stonework becomes more tangible, with subtle variations in tone and surface detail holding clearly against the softened water. The gentle gradation of colour in the sky remains continuous rather than segmented, allowing the image’s sense of calm enclosure and quiet transition to persist beyond the screen.
