A very early rise on the last morning of our stay in Donegal appeared less then hopeful when I peered out of the window at a dark and leaden sky. Undeterred however we bundled ourselves back into the car and took the 40 minute drive down to Kinnegoe Bay. This was another location we were told about by some local photographers. We had done some recce on the previous day and felt it had real potential for sunrise.
Unfortunately the dawn came and went, the sun hidden behind heavy clouds. Nevertheless I continued to wander the bay just enjoying the isolation and peace. I had begun to work a number of compositions when, literally in a mater of 20 minutes the clouds almost entirely disappeared. What I was left with was an intensely blue early morning sky.

By this time the tide was receding and every few minutes that passed more and more of the landscape was revealed. As I sat upon the rocks considering my options I was fascinated by the contrast of the ebb and flow of the tide while a few meters out in the bay a massive rock stood unmoving. Using a 3 stop ND Filter I was able to slow down the shutter speed just enough to capture the contrast between the motion in the receding tide upon the sand and that motionless rock in the bay.
