I took a trip down to Greystones in Co Wicklow last saturday. When I was actually considering where to shoot last weekend I realised it was over 2 years ago when I last visited Greystones. I remember distinctly when I was wrapping up after my last time shooting there that I must comeback soon. Is 2 years soon? On the last trip I came away with 2 images entitled Predawn at Greystones Beach and Sunrise at Greystones both of which ended up being part of my My Top 10 Favourite Images of 2010. So to say I had high hopes when I was returning was putting it mildly.

The weather forecast indicated absolute perfect conditions for what I wanted to do there. Good cloud cover in the early morning but not to heavy, and a stiff breeze. Greystones offers a fairly unique landscape that is unusual to find on the east coast of Ireland. The out-jutting cliffs are made up of greywacke sandstones and quartzites. This post-glacial landscape also reflects the effects of sub-aerial and marine erosional processes that have denuded the topography since the ice sheet retreat source. This creates rather unique jagged and triangular shape to the cliffs. If cliffs and rocks could be considered photogenic then Greystones is a Catwalk model!
