My Top 10 Favourite Images of 2012

I seem to say this every year, but where did that year go? Well it’s that time again, and as I promised in last weeks post to share with you my Top 10 Personal Favourite Images from this year. This is my fifth year (gasp!) doing this. You can have a look at my other Top 10 posts from 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011.

It was certainly an interesting year for me from a photographic point of view. While commercially I was busier then ever, my personal work took a back stage this year; indeed I produced just 23 personal images this year. Although that didn’t make the job of selecting my Top 10 any easier; indeed it proved the most difficult year so far.

I think my final selection provides an accurate representation of the direction I took with my personal work this year. I found myself at a juncture artistically speaking and felt a desperate need to move beyond the images I had produced up until this point. You will find only one floral image in here; no doubt due to the fact I had produced nearly 200 for the Malahide Castle & Gardens commission during 2011/2012. You’ll also only find 3 Landscapes (and this & this), at least in the traditional sense of that word. Instead there are a number of much more intimate Landscape images (or this), or in the case of Floating a much more minimalist landscape. I also experimented with alternate ways of processing my images in Reflections of Autumn and lastly, towards the end of the year I stepped into the Abstract in earnest with both Water Abstract #1 and Autumnal Abstract #1.

So there you have it, my own personal 10 favourites for 2012. It proved a busy year commercially but that did not stop me from producing personal pieces that I am very proud of. This year felt very different for me in terms of what I sought to communicate through my photography and that journey is by no means at an end. I am very excited about 2013 and how I will continue to refine both my craft and vision.

Until we meet in 2013 I’d just like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year!

Hey by the way did I miss any of your favourites in this list, let me know in the comments below?
