Still water holds the mountains as swift cloud passes overhead at Millarochy Bay.

the Photograph

At Millarochy Bay on Loch Lomond, the water lies calm beneath a broad sweep of surrounding hills as cloud moves steadily across the sky. The shoreline recedes gently, with scattered stones anchoring the foreground while the mountains form a soft, enclosing horizon.

Colour and atmosphere shape the image. Cool blues and muted greys settle across water and sky, creating a restrained palette that allows the landforms to read quietly rather than assertively. The long exposure smooths the surface of the loch, setting the slow permanence of the mountains against the fleeting motion above.

In print, the contrast between the glass-like stillness of the water and the layered movement within the clouds remains clearly articulated. Subtle tonal shifts across the loch preserve depth without breaking the calm surface, while the rocks retain their dark presence, reinforcing the image’s balance between motion and rest beyond the screen.

the Print

Printing is treated not as a final step, but as a continuation of the work, refining tone, balance, and texture until the print feels true to the original experience. Each photograph is produced as a signed Fine Art Giclée print, carefully inspected by me before it leaves my studio.

Prints are offered in five sizes, Companion, Artist, Studio, Gallery, and Master. The range is intentionally limited, allowing the image to be experienced at a scale that feels right, from an intimate print to a larger piece with stronger presence.

Smaller editions are printed by me personally, while larger works are produced in close collaboration with a trusted fine art printer in Ireland. All prints are made using archival papers from Hahnemühle and Canson, combined with genuine Epson pigment inks, chosen for their tonal subtlety and long-term permanence. Every print is backed by my satisfaction, replacement, and lifetime fade-free guarantees. Find out more about my printing process here.
