Hook Lighthouse stands firm above the restless sea.

the Photograph

On the Wexford coast, Hook Lighthouse rises from layered rock as the Atlantic presses in from all sides. The sea is in motion, churning and folding around the base of the cliffs, while the lighthouse remains fixed, its presence calm against the surrounding turbulence.

Presented in black and white, the image strips the scene back to form, contrast, and rhythm. The alternating bands of the tower echo the horizontal strata of the rock beneath it, creating a visual dialogue between built structure and geology. Long exposure smooths the water into sweeping paths of light and shadow, allowing movement to register without overpowering the solidity of the land.

In print, the tonal separation between the bright masonry of the lighthouse and the darker textures of the cliffs becomes more pronounced. Fine detail emerges in the rock faces, while the softened motion of the water takes on a layered depth that feels continuous rather than fleeting. These qualities give the image a sense of endurance, where time and tide are present but held in balance.

the Print

Printing is treated not as a final step, but as a continuation of the work, refining tone, balance, and texture until the print feels true to the original experience. Each photograph is produced as a signed Fine Art Giclée print, carefully inspected by me before it leaves my studio.

Prints are offered in five sizes, Companion, Artist, Studio, Gallery, and Master. The range is intentionally limited, allowing the image to be experienced at a scale that feels right, from an intimate print to a larger piece with stronger presence.

Smaller editions are printed by me personally, while larger works are produced in close collaboration with a trusted fine art printer in Ireland. All prints are made using archival papers from Hahnemühle and Canson, combined with genuine Epson pigment inks, chosen for their tonal subtlety and long-term permanence. Every print is backed by my satisfaction, replacement, and lifetime fade-free guarantees. Find out more about my printing process here.
