the Photograph
In Florence, clear light from a cloudless sky falls hard across a narrow side street, framing the steeple of the Basilica di San Lorenzo between opposing façades. The scene is simple and precise, defined by the meeting of stone, plaster, and sky as the city holds still beneath the sun.
Light and geometry drive the photograph. Strong verticals from shuttered windows and wall edges are set against the rounded form of the dome and steeple beyond. With colour kept restrained, attention rests on contrast and proportion, allowing shadow to shape the space as decisively as the architecture itself.
In print, the crisp boundary between illuminated wall and deep shadow remains clean and stable, preserving the clarity of each plane without bleed or glare. Fine tonal differences in the masonry and plaster stay legible, giving weight to the surfaces and reinforcing the image’s measured balance between precision and warmth beyond the screen.

All prints are made using archival papers from Hahnemühle and Canson, combined with genuine Epson pigment inks, chosen for their tonal subtlety and long-term permanence.
