Sea stacks emerge from the shallows at Caher Cove on Waterford’s Copper Coast.

At Caher Cove on the Copper Coast of County Waterford, a small group of sea stacks rises from shallow water just offshore. Set against a wide horizon, the rocks sit apart from the coastline, their forms defined by isolation rather than scale.
The photograph is rendered in black and white to emphasise shape and tonal separation. The smooth surface of the sea contrasts with the rough, angular structure of the rocks, while soft cloud layers stretch across the sky, reinforcing the horizontal flow of the composition. The long exposure reduces surface movement, allowing the scene to settle into quiet balance.
In print, the relationship between the dark mass of the sea stacks and the surrounding tonal field becomes more distinct. Subtle gradations in the water and sky emerge gradually, while the texture of the rock holds visual weight, anchoring the image in the physical character of this stretch of coast.
