Stone steps descend into still water at Sandycove, leading the eye toward Howth Head across a quiet Dublin Bay.

the Photograph
From the slipway at Sandycove, this long-exposure study looks outward across Dublin Bay toward Howth Head, where land thins into horizon and sea becomes almost indistinguishable from sky. The stepped geometry of the stone foreground offers a quiet invitation forward, dissolving gently into softened water.
The black and white treatment reduces the scene to tonal relationships and form. Motion in the sea and clouds is smoothed into a pale, continuous surface, allowing the darker rocks and distant headland to anchor the composition with restraint. A lone vessel drifts near the horizon, adding scale without disturbing the prevailing stillness.
In print, the image gains a heightened sense of depth and calm. Subtle tonal transitions emerge across the water’s surface, while the texture of the stone foreground feels more tactile and grounded. The balance between structure and openness becomes more pronounced, encouraging a slow, contemplative reading of the scene.

the Print
Printing is treated not as a final step, but as a continuation of the work, refining tone, balance, and texture until the print feels true to the original experience. Each photograph is produced as a signed Fine Art Giclée print, carefully inspected by me before it leaves my studio.
Prints are offered in five sizes, Companion, Artist, Studio, Gallery, and Master. The range is intentionally limited, allowing the image to be experienced at a scale that feels right, from an intimate print to a larger piece with stronger presence.
Smaller editions are printed by me personally, while larger works are produced in close collaboration with a trusted fine art printer in Ireland. All prints are made using archival papers from Hahnemühle and Canson, combined with genuine Epson pigment inks, chosen for their tonal subtlety and long-term permanence. Every print is backed by my satisfaction, replacement, and lifetime fade-free guarantees. Find out more about my printing process here.
