Lough Caragh at Sunrise #1

Price range: € 35.00 through € 350.00

Kerry, Ireland • Dec 29th, 2014

A solitary jetty reaches into still water as evening light fades over Lough Caragh.

the Photograph

As the sun slips behind the Carrauntoohil mountains, a narrow wooden platform extends into the calm surface of Lough Caragh in County Kerry. The surrounding landscape falls into silhouette, while the lake absorbs the remaining light, holding the scene in a moment of quiet suspension.

Rendered in black and white, the image emphasises structure and balance over atmosphere alone. The strong central line of the jetty draws the eye forward, while the softened water and blurred cloud movement dissolve any sense of time or place. Dark landforms anchor the frame, allowing light and reflection to do the work of separation rather than contrast alone.

In print, the photograph gains a tactile presence. Fine grain in the wooden boards becomes more apparent, while the long tonal transitions in the water reveal subtle gradations that are easily missed on screen. The boundary between reflection and sky softens further, giving the image a calm, meditative depth that rewards unhurried viewing.

the Print

Printing is treated not as a final step, but as a continuation of the work, refining tone, balance, and texture until the print feels true to the original experience. Each photograph is produced as a signed Fine Art Giclée print, carefully inspected by me before it leaves my studio.

Prints are offered in five sizes, Companion, Artist, Studio, Gallery, and Master. The range is intentionally limited, allowing the image to be experienced at a scale that feels right, from an intimate print to a larger piece with stronger presence.

Smaller editions are printed by me personally, while larger works are produced in close collaboration with a trusted fine art printer in Ireland. All prints are made using archival papers from Hahnemühle and Canson, combined with genuine Epson pigment inks, chosen for their tonal subtlety and long-term permanence. Every print is backed by my satisfaction, replacement, and lifetime fade-free guarantees. Find out more about my printing process here.
