Cracked rock leads toward a darkening horizon beneath advancing storm clouds.

the Photograph

At Kimmeridge Bay on England’s Jurassic Coast, heavy cloud gathers over the open sea as the tide moves quietly against a broad shelf of stone. The view is low and exposed, with the coastline receding to the right while the sky presses inward, signalling an approaching change in weather.

Rendered in black and white, the photograph emphasises structure and weight rather than drama. The fractured surface of the tidal shelf forms a network of lines and planes that guide the eye toward the horizon, while the long exposure softens the water into a pale counterpoint against the darker sky. With colour removed, attention settles on geometry, balance, and the slow tension between land and atmosphere.

In print, the fine cracks and subtle tonal shifts within the rock surface remain clearly articulated, giving the foreground a strong tactile presence. The gradation within the cloud mass holds its depth without flattening, allowing the contrast between solid ground and advancing sky to retain its quiet, elemental force beyond the screen.

the Print

Printing is treated not as a final step, but as a continuation of the work, refining tone, balance, and texture until the print feels true to the original experience. Each photograph is produced as a signed Fine Art Giclée print, carefully inspected by me before it leaves my studio.

Prints are offered in five sizes, Companion, Artist, Studio, Gallery, and Master. The range is intentionally limited, allowing the image to be experienced at a scale that feels right, from an intimate print to a larger piece with stronger presence.

Smaller editions are printed by me personally, while larger works are produced in close collaboration with a trusted fine art printer in Ireland. All prints are made using archival papers from Hahnemühle and Canson, combined with genuine Epson pigment inks, chosen for their tonal subtlety and long-term permanence. Every print is backed by my satisfaction, replacement, and lifetime fade-free guarantees. Find out more about my printing process here.
