At dawn on a secluded stretch of the Algarve coast, light and shadow move quietly across the shoreline at Praia do Camilo. Framed by dark rock walls, the sea lies calm as a solitary sea stack rises from the water, briefly revealed as the light lifts.
The photograph is rendered in monochrome to emphasise shape, balance, and tonal contrast. By removing colour, attention settles on the geometry of the scene rather than the spectacle of sunrise, allowing form, space, and restraint to guide the image. The interplay between solid rock and softened water creates a sense of pause and liminality.
In print, the separation between the dark rock walls and the pale surface of the sea becomes more finely resolved. The sea stack holds its form without drawing attention away from the surrounding space, while the soft gradation of light across the water preserves the sense of quiet suspension that defines the moment.
