Last light breaks across rugged cliffs and restless water at Malin Head.

the Photograph
At Malin Head on Ireland’s northernmost coast, evening light slips beneath a band of heavy cloud, igniting the edge of sea and rock before day gives way to night. The land falls sharply into the Atlantic here, with steep cliffs and jagged stacks channeling the movement of water below as the sun sinks low on the horizon.
Colour and energy shape the scene. Warm golds and soft amber tones spread across the cliff faces and water, set against cooler blues and greys gathering in the sky. Long exposure draws the motion of the sea into flowing paths around the rock formations, allowing structure and light to coexist without overwhelming the composition.
In print, the separation between illuminated rock, darkened cloud, and softened water remains clearly resolved. Fine transitions in colour across the sky hold without flattening, while the textured surfaces of the cliffs retain their weight and detail. The image sustains its sense of scale and elemental tension beyond the screen, inviting prolonged viewing rather than immediate impact.

the Print
Printing is treated not as a final step, but as a continuation of the work, refining tone, balance, and texture until the print feels true to the original experience. Each photograph is produced as a signed Fine Art Giclée print, carefully inspected by me before it leaves my studio.
Prints are offered in five sizes, Companion, Artist, Studio, Gallery, and Master. The range is intentionally limited, allowing the image to be experienced at a scale that feels right, from an intimate print to a larger piece with stronger presence.
Smaller editions are printed by me personally, while larger works are produced in close collaboration with a trusted fine art printer in Ireland. All prints are made using archival papers from Hahnemühle and Canson, combined with genuine Epson pigment inks, chosen for their tonal subtlety and long-term permanence. Every print is backed by my satisfaction, replacement, and lifetime fade-free guarantees. Find out more about my printing process here.
