Sunset over Lighthouse of Cabo de São Vicente #1

Price range: € 35.00 through € 350.00

Sagres, Portugal • Mar 24th, 2023

A band of fading light settles behind the lighthouse at the edge of Europe.

the Photograph

At sunset in Sagres on Portugal’s Algarve coast, a narrow band of warm light stretches across the horizon behind Cabo de São Vicente Lighthouse. The sea below lies calm and darkening, while the last colour of the day lingers between sky and water, marking the slow transition from light to night.

Colour is the quiet focus of this photograph. Soft gradients shift from warm yellows and muted pinks into cooler blues, forming horizontal layers that emphasise distance and stillness rather than drama. The lighthouse and headland sit lightly within the frame, providing a sense of scale and orientation without interrupting the flow of light across the sky.

In print, the smooth gradation of colour across the sky holds with greater subtlety, allowing the transitions between warm and cool tones to remain distinct rather than compressed. The dark mass of sea and cliff retains its depth without overpowering the luminous band at the horizon, sustaining the image’s balance between openness and quiet finality.

the Print

Printing is treated not as a final step, but as a continuation of the work, refining tone, balance, and texture until the print feels true to the original experience. Each photograph is produced as a signed Fine Art Giclée print, carefully inspected by me before it leaves my studio.

Prints are offered in five sizes, Companion, Artist, Studio, Gallery, and Master. The range is intentionally limited, allowing the image to be experienced at a scale that feels right, from an intimate print to a larger piece with stronger presence.

Smaller editions are printed by me personally, while larger works are produced in close collaboration with a trusted fine art printer in Ireland. All prints are made using archival papers from Hahnemühle and Canson, combined with genuine Epson pigment inks, chosen for their tonal subtlety and long-term permanence. Every print is backed by my satisfaction, replacement, and lifetime fade-free guarantees. Find out more about my printing process here.
