On the edge of a still lake in County Cavan, a narrow rowboat lies pulled up along the shoreline, framed by two small trees and low reeds at the water’s edge. Behind them, gently rising hills carry the muted colours of late autumn, forming a quiet backdrop to the scene.
The composition is built around balance and reflection. The boat and trees are mirrored in the calm surface of the lake, while pale morning light softens the transition between land, water, and sky. Colour remains restrained, allowing greens, browns, and subtle golds to sit quietly within the frame rather than dominate it.
In print, the fine detail in the grasses and the subtle tonal shifts across the water become more apparent. The reflections hold steady without becoming symmetrical, and the textures of frost, foliage, and still water reveal themselves gradually, reinforcing the sense of calm and pause that defines the image.
