Dark ridges rise above a quiet settlement beneath the weight of Skye’s mountains.

the Photograph
Near Torrin on the Isle of Skye, the land opens toward the sea before rising sharply into the broken forms of the Cuillin Mountains. Clach Glas dominates the view, its steep faces and angular ridges pressing beneath a heavy, unsettled sky, while a small white house rests low in the foreground, dwarfed by the scale of the landscape around it.
Colour and mood shape the photograph. Muted greens and browns roll through the lower slopes, giving way to the darker, colder stone of the peaks above. Cloud hangs close to the summits, softening edges without easing their presence, and allowing the mountain mass to feel both imposing and restrained rather than theatrical.
In print, the fine separation between rock faces, scree lines, and shadowed gullies remains clearly legible, preventing the mountain from collapsing into a single dark mass. Subtle tonal shifts across the slopes and sky preserve depth and structure, while the small human presence in the valley holds its place quietly, reinforcing the contrast between habitation and the enduring force of the land beyond the screen.

the Print
Printing is treated not as a final step, but as a continuation of the work, refining tone, balance, and texture until the print feels true to the original experience. Each photograph is produced as a signed Fine Art Giclée print, carefully inspected by me before it leaves my studio.
Prints are offered in five sizes, Companion, Artist, Studio, Gallery, and Master. The range is intentionally limited, allowing the image to be experienced at a scale that feels right, from an intimate print to a larger piece with stronger presence.
Smaller editions are printed by me personally, while larger works are produced in close collaboration with a trusted fine art printer in Ireland. All prints are made using archival papers from Hahnemühle and Canson, combined with genuine Epson pigment inks, chosen for their tonal subtlety and long-term permanence. Every print is backed by my satisfaction, replacement, and lifetime fade-free guarantees. Find out more about my printing process here.
